A chiropodist is a regulated healthcare professional who specializes in assessing, treating, and preventing conditions of the feet and lower limbs. In Ontario, chiropodists are registered with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario and hold a Diploma in Chiropody (D.Ch). Chiropodists and podiatrists have a very similar scope of practice in Ontario — both diagnose and treat foot conditions, perform minor foot surgery, and prescribe custom orthotics. The main difference is educational background: chiropodists are typically trained in Canada, while podiatrists are often internationally trained. For the vast majority of foot problems, a registered chiropodist is fully qualified to help.
